Lon Sailers 1918-1985

Lon Sailers served as Scoutmaster for 38 years (1947-1983).  During his tenure, the troop had 238 Scouts earn the Eagle Scout award. 

Sailers, guided the troop to be a nationally recognized troop by attending nine national jamborees.  The troop expanded its community and council presence.

In 1993, the Troop honored his leadership to the troop by creating the "Excellence in Leadership" award.  This award is presented periodically to adult leaders who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in service to the troop. 

The first recipient was Dan Herndon, Sailers' long time assistant scoutmaster.  This was awarded in 1994. 

In award had been presented four other times.  The awardees have been, Jim Phillips (1993), Charles Holmes(1998), Jackie Brewer (2006), and Bob Pospick (2009).
