Uniformed Leadership:

delivery of the Scouting program only comes from trained leaders who are committed to the service of others. in Scouting, those individuals wear the uniform.


Scoutmaster Cochran

Troop Adult Leaders 2012-2013

Scoutmaster: Charles Cochran
Charles and his family moved in to the Park Cities in 2009. He has two sons in the troop and has become fully involved in the program as he recently accepted the challenge to serve as Scoutmaster. Charles has completed he Wood Badge training course. He served as an assistant scoutmaster at the 2010 National Jamboree at Fort A P Hill in Virginia and will be serving as Scoutmaster for the 2013 National Jamboree. He is married and has two sons in the troop.

Assistant Scoutmasters:

Asst SM: David Baxter
David is a Troop 70 Eagle Scout having earned the award in September 1965. He has served as an assistant for 6 years and attended the 2005 National Jamboree and the 2008 Irish Jamboree. David has served as Cubmaster and has participated in the basic training courses. He completed his Wood Badge training having received his beads in 2004. David is married to Barbara and is the father of two Eagle Scout sons.

Asst SM: Tim Clow
Tim is an attorney practicing in North Dallas and has a son in the troop. He has embraced the Scouting program and has become a fully trained leader having completed his Wood Badge training recently. He was awarded his beads on November 22nd at a troop meeting.

Asst SM: Charles Cochran
Charles and his family recently moved in to the Dallas area in 2009. He has a son in the troop and has become fully involved in the program. Charles is scheduled to take complete the BSA training continuum by taking the 21st Century Wood Badge course this summer in Philmont Scout Ranch. He served as an assistant scoutmaster at the 2010 National Jamboree at Fort A P Hill in Virginia. He has a son in the troop.

Asst SM: Joe Crafton
Joe and his family moved into Dallas in the 1990s and has been involved in the troop as soon as his older son became of age for Scouting. Joe has completed the required leader training having received his Wood Badge beads in 2007. He served as scoutmaster for the 2010 National Jamboree and has three sons in the troop, one who just received his Eagle rank.

Asst SM: David Eisenlohr
David is a Troop 70 Eagle Scout having earned the award in May 1971 and the Aubrey Pollard Award in 1972. He has served as an assistant since 1996 and attended the 1997 National Jamboree. David has served as Cubmaster and has completed the basic training courses. He completed his Wood Badge training having received his beads in 1997. David is married to Shelley and is the father of two Troop 70 Eagle Scouts.

Asst SM: Dan Herndon (deceased)
Dan is the father of two Troop 70 Scouts, one an Eagle. He first become an assistant in 1965 and has had been a uniformed leader ever since. Be sure to see more about Dad and the award named in his honor. Dan is married to Louise, even after all these years of service to Scouting. Dan's accomplishments are too numerous to outline here. He attended the 1969, 1973, 1977, 1981 and 1985 national jamborees. He is a trained leader and received the Silver Beaver award in 1979.

Asst SM: Carson Holmes
Carson is a Troop 70 Eagle Scout (2004) who has come back to be an active leader in the troop. Carson has completed the class room portion of Wood Badge training and is working on the practical requirements. Carson has attended 2 national jamborees, one as a Scout and one as a leader, and 2 world jamborees. He is an accomplished guitar player and Aubrey Pollard award winner (2005).

Asst SM: Hudson Lockett
Hudson is a Troop 70 Eagle Scout having earned the award in November 1970 and the Aubrey Pollard Award in 1971. He has served as an assistant since 1998 and attended the 1981 and 2001 National Jamborees and the 2005 jamboree as a staff member. Hudson served as an Assistant Cubmaster at Zion Lutheran Church Pack and has participated in the basic training courses. He completed his Wood Badge training having received his beads in 2004. Hudson has also staffed two WB courses. He also led a Scout exchange group to Ireland in 2004 and hosted the return group in 2005. He has received the Silver Beaver Award, is married to Kathy and is the proud father of a Troop 70 Eagle Scout son.

Asst SM: Bob Pospick
Bob is a Troop 70 Eagle Scout having earned the award in May 1971 and the Aubrey Pollard Award in 1973. He has served as an assistant since 1981 and attended the 1981, 1985, 1989, 1997, 2005 National Jamborees and the 2010 jamboree as a staff member. Bob completed his Wood Badge training having received his beads in 1986. He has also staffed a WB course. He also led a group of Scouts to the Irish National Jamboree in 2008. Bob is married and the father of two Troop 70 Eagle Scouts and has received the Silver Beaver Award.

Asst SM: - John Shipes
John has been active in the troop for several years. He first became an assistant scoutmaster in 1997 when his older son was a Scout in the troop. John's service has included designing fund raising pieces and as the "official" Eagle candidate photographer. John is a world class photographer as his profession so that part came real easy for him and a great benefit to the troop. He recently served as Scoutmaster 2009-2012. John is Wood Badge trained and has served on staff.

Asst SM: Jim Whorton
Jim is a father of two Troop 70 Eagle Scouts. He currently is also servings as a district assistant commissioner. He has served as an assistant for 25 years and attended the 1989, 1993 and 1997 National Jamborees as a unit leader. He also served on staff for the 2001, 2005, and 2010 jamborees. He has completed the basic training courses. He has also completed his Wood Badge training having received his beads in 1995. Jim is the father of two Troop 70 Eagle Scouts.

It is simple to become a trained leader. Only one hour per week. Just contact the Scoutmaster and the rest is easy.



Troop 70 is the oldest continuously operating boy scout troop in university park. (more)
