History:
Lon Sailers served as Scoutmaster for 38 years (1946-1984). During his tenure, the troop presented 238 Eagle Scout awards.
Sailers, guided the troop to a nationally recognized troop by excellence in youth participation, advancement, uniforming, and attending nine national jamborees as a troop. The troop became an important part of the community and Circle Ten Council.
In 1993, the Troop honored his leadership to the troop by creating the "Excellence in Leadership" award. This award is presented periodically to adult leaders who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in service to the troop, council, regional, and national organization.
The first recognition was presented in 1994 to Dan Herndon, Sailers' long time assistant scoutmaster.
