High Adventure

For Summer 2021, Troop 70 is currently planning high adventure treks to Philmont and our first trip to Swamp Base!

Troop 70 regularly sponsors high adventure activities, including ski trips and summertime trips to BSA high adventure camps (Philmont, Sea Base, Northern Tier and the Summit), jamborees or other locations, such as Yosemite and Swamp Base. Scouts who attend these opportunities find these opportunities to be the high points of their Scouting careers. The Troop has attended 18 national jamborees, every one since 1950! In 2017, Troop 70 Scouts attended the National Jamboree in The Summit - Bechtel Reserve, West Virginia, Scouting’s 107th year. In connection with that trip, the Scouts toured New York City and Washington, D.C. and camped 10 days with 35,000 other Scouts from around the United States.

Philmont

Philmont Scout Ranch is the Boy Scouts of America’s largest National High Adventure Base. Born in 1938 as Philturn Rocky Mountain Scout Camp, Philmont has become a bustling center for high adventure and training. It covers 140,177 acres of rugged mountain wilderness in the Sangre de Cristo range of the Rocky Mountains in northeastern New Mexico.

Sea Base

Sea Base is a unique Scouting program that offers aquatics programs found nowhere else. Whether your interests lie in sailing, scuba diving, rustic camping on an undeveloped barrier island, fishing or a combination of all, this is the place for your Troop, Team, Crew, Sea Ship or Explorer Post. Sea Base serves around 16,000 participants annually.

Swamp Base

Louisiana Swamp Base is a national conservation and high adventure recreation base created in 2010.  Located deep within the swamps of South Louisiana, Swamp Base offers high adventure paddling treks through the vast and mysterious Atchafalaya Swamp.  Swamp Base focuses on the quality and experience of the Atchafalaya Swamp through environmental stewardship efforts and high adventure programs allowing youth to experience the swamp firsthand.  For the adventurous and the prepared, the swamp offers challenges to conquer and wonders to behold!

Jamboree

Scouting’s flagship event is one-of-a-kind. It’s a gathering of tens of thousands of Scouts, leaders, and Jamboree Service Team members that showcases everything that is great about the Boy Scouts of America. Over the course of 10 summer days, once every four years, the Boy Scouts of America gathers together. Scouts and Scouters who attend will explore all kinds of adventures—stadium shows, pioneer village, Mount Jack hikes, adventure sports and more—in the heart of one of nature’s greatest playgrounds. With 10,000 acres at the Summit to explore, there’s no shortage of opportunities to build Scouting memories.

World Jamboree

The World Scout Jamboree is the largest regular event organised by the Scout Movement, gathering up to 40 000 people from all over the world. It is above all an educational event to promote peace and understanding. The World Scout Jamboree includes a wide variety of activities and also places great importance on the everyday life and interaction on the campsite. Troop 70 scouts have attended several World Jamborees.

Northern Tier

Northern Tier is the Scouts BSA’s gateway to adventure in the Great Northwoods. In the summer, Scouts from Northern Tier’s three wilderness canoe bases explore millions of acres of pristine lakes, meandering rivers, dense forests and wetlands in Northern Minnesota, Ontario and Manitoba.
